Finding Family

Finding Family is an Emmy nominated one hour-long documentary produced by Channel 12 WKRC-TV in conjunction with The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education.

Seven year old Heinzi, whose only “crime” was being Jewish, was forced to hide among strangers in a foreign country, fleeing the most ruthless and cruel regime known in history. A hidden child in the Holocaust, he lost everything and everyone. Yet, amidst the darkness, he found goodness in a poor Catholic Dutch farming family with 8 kids, 6 cows, one horse and cart ... and another Jewish boy already in hiding. Finding Family is about quiet heroism, about a mother’s ultimate sacrifice, and about a continuous search for the bonds that tie humanity together.

Finding Family follows Henry (Heinzi) Blumenstein, a social worker and grandfather in America, on a journey back to Europe to meet the descendents of the family who saved him 60 years ago. This is an uplifting story of courage and hope, and, most of all, a moving testament to love and kindness. As we journey with Henry to reconnect with his foster family, we learn the true meaning of belonging within the human family.
