Information about Mapping Our Tears |
| Mapping
Our Tears is an innovative educational exhibit that personifies
the best that humanity offers: Love of life, freedom, tolerance,
diversity, and an unwavering commitment to fight evil. Meet
extraordinary men and women such as a Dutch boy delivering packages
for the resistance movement, a teen dreaming of books while
she endures slave labor, a father who lost everything and yet
rebuilds his life by adopting orphans, an American soldier who
becomes a liberator. Surrounded by the worst of humanity, these
individuals offer moving lessons of perseverance and courage. |

In this unique environmental
theater, a 1930s European attic setting creates an intimate atmosphere
that takes us back in time. The true heart of the attic are the testimonies
viewed on three video screens simultaneously. Featured are all local people
who are witnesses to the Holocaust: refugees, survivors, rescuers, and
liberators from the Allied Forces. Multimedia effects highlight the journeys
of these amazing people, helping us feel with all our senses and understand
their unfolding stories. Interactive kiosk stations further explore the
human experiences that support the artifacts and testimonies. The mosaic
of voices are the collective story of the genocide of the 6 million Jews,
and of them, 1.5 million children.
In the attic, you
will find a wedding dress, a radio, a bicycle - items from a time of innocence
- together with a yellow star, a food ration card, and unanswered letters
- articles from a time of Nazi persecution and hardship. Every item in
the exhibit is connected to a person from the Cincinnati area who experienced
the world-altering events of the Holocaust and WWII and survived to tell
their stories to the world. These stories are integrated together into
timeless themes of Love, Courage, Justice, and Loss to demonstrate the
importance and value of every human life.
