Holocaust Remembrance Week Essay Contest Deadline

April 13

Be a part of this year’s Week of Remembrance. HHC is conducting an essay contest to help commemorate Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day).

  • The contest is open to students in grades 6-12
  • Submission deadline: Monday, April 13, 2020
  • We will choose 4 winners

Prompt: “How will you continue to tell the stories of Holocaust survivors?”

Please answer the question above in an essay format. Submissions should be typed and double spaced in a professional font (Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri) and no longer than 1-2 pages, as the winners will either read or have their essay read the week of April 19.

Resources: To help formulate your essay, please take a look at the 360 VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE MUSEUM. For an overview of the Holocaust, watch the ECHOING VOICES INTRODUCTORY VIDEO (Holocaust & Humanity Center) and THE PATH TO NAZI GENOCIDE (US Holocaust Memorial Museum). Links to testimonies of local survivors are available HERE.

Judging Criteria: Each entry will be judged with the following criteria in mind:

  • Offers a clear lesson from the Holocaust
  • Makes a connection to today with an actionable item
  • Presents accurate historical facts
  • Is clear and concise

Winning essays will be chosen to be read via livestream during the week. Winners will also receive:
First Place: 4 free tickets to the museum and a behind-the-scenes tour (when the museum re-opens)
Second, Third, and Fourth Place: 2 free tickets to the museum

All essays must be submitted electronically and sent to Sarah Schneider at SSCHNEIDER@CINCYHHC.ORG by midnight on April 13. Please include your name, grade level, e-mail address, and phone number in your submission document.
