Meet Our Upstander Finalist: Luca Moss

Luca Moss has become a powerful voice for mental wellness, using empathy, bravery, and advocacy to support and inspire others. A senior at Sycamore High School, Luca has made it her mission to ensure that no student feels unseen, unheard, or alone in their struggles. Guided by empathy and a deep sense of responsibility to others, she has transformed concern into action, using her voice to confront the stigma surrounding mental illness and create meaningful change within her school community.

Luca’s impact extends far beyond raising awareness. She has actively created safe, supportive spaces where students can engage in open, honest conversations about mental health without fear of judgment. Through her leadership in wellness and suicide prevention efforts, she has helped lower the barriers for her peers to seek help, fostering a culture rooted in compassion, understanding, and care. In doing so, she has shifted her school environment from one of quiet struggle to one of active support.

What sets Luca apart is her willingness to step into difficult conversations with courage and grace. She recognizes that advocacy is not always easy, yet she consistently chooses to show up, speak out, and stand beside those who need it most. Her work reflects a powerful form of social justice, one that ensures the well-being of others is prioritized and protected.

Luca Moss is not only changing conversations around mental health. She is changing lives. Her leadership is a testament to the impact one individual can have when they choose to stand up for others with empathy, intention, and unwavering courage.
