Deasa Dorsey is a visionary leader whose work is transforming health equity across our region through innovation, advocacy, and collaboration. As a registered nurse and co-founder of the Black Nurse Network, Deasa is a powerful advocate for Black nurses, addressing systemic barriers that exist from nursing education through professional practice. She not only elevates awareness of these challenges, but actively builds pathways of support, mentorship, and opportunity for the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Her impact extends far beyond the profession. Recognizing that African Americans are disproportionately affected by chronic conditions such as diabetes, Deasa has committed herself to empowering patients with the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their health. As the founder of iCan Health and author of The iCan Manual: My Simple Manual for Living With Diabetes, she translates complex health information into accessible, actionable guidance that improves lives and promotes long-term wellness.

Deasa’s work is rooted in both education and storytelling. As co-director and co-producer of Breaking the Silence: A Black Nursing Documentary, she amplifies the voices and lived experiences of Black nurses, ensuring their stories are seen, heard, and valued. Through every initiative, she brings visibility to inequities while creating meaningful solutions that drive change.

A community educator, patient advocate, and changemaker, Deasa embodies the spirit of an upstander by confronting injustice with action and transforming systems with purpose. Her leadership has earned widespread recognition, including honors such as Black Is Excellence Honoree, the Onyx and Ruby Rising Star Award, Who’s Who in Black Cincinnati Emerging Leaders Award, The Cincinnati Herald’s BRIGHT Award, and the UC College of Nursing Alumni Legacy Award.

Deasa Dorsey is not only addressing the challenges of today, she is building a more equitable and compassionate future for healthcare.
