Meet Our Upstander Finalist: Shannon Price

Shannon Price has made a lasting impact in Cincinnati through innovative leadership and a deep commitment to expanding access to safe, stable housing for underserved communities. A highly skilled and deeply compassionate attorney, she has dedicated her career to ensuring that vulnerable families are not left to face eviction alone. Through her vision, courage, and unwavering commitment to justice, Shannon has helped more than 750 households remain in their homes, fundamentally changing lives and strengthening communities.

Shannon’s impact extends far beyond individual cases. She has reshaped the systems that serve Cincinnati’s most vulnerable residents. As the author of the City of Cincinnati’s groundbreaking Access to Counsel Ordinance, passed in January 2024, she secured a critical right to legal representation for tenants facing eviction. Recognizing that justice must also be accessible in real time, she went on to design and launch the Hamilton County Help Center’s Eviction Limited Representation Pilot Program, an innovative initiative providing same-day legal representation to tenants in crisis. This program has quickly become a national model for rapid-response legal advocacy.

Through this work, Shannon confronted a long-standing inequity in eviction court, where landlords were almost always represented and tenants rarely were. She did not accept this imbalance. She changed it. Since the program’s launch in September 2024, more than 1,570 notices of appearance have been filed, serving over 750 households. More than 93 percent of appearances have resulted in positive outcomes, and over 87 percent of litigated cases have been dismissed. These results reflect not only her legal expertise, but her relentless determination to stand up for those who need it most.

In the courtroom, Shannon combines exceptional skill with deep empathy. Often stepping in with little time to prepare, she provides steady, compassionate advocacy for families on the brink of losing their homes. Despite the magnitude of her impact, she remains humble and focused, driven not by recognition, but by the outcomes she secures for others.

Shannon Price embodies the true spirit of an upstander. She sees injustice, takes action, and builds lasting change. Through her leadership, she is not only protecting housing stability today, she is creating a more just and equitable future for Cincinnati.
