The Simon Lazarus Jr. Human Relations Awards, led by the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center, in partnership with AJC Cincinnati, honors high school juniors and senior students throughout greater Cincinnati for their exceptional community service and social impact work.
Simon Lazarus Jr. Human Relations Awards
Beginning with the 2026 award cycle, the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center will assume leadership of the Simon Lazarus Jr. Human Relations Awards, in partnership with American Jewish Committee of Cincinnati.
Now in their 61st year, these awards honor high school juniors and seniors across Greater Cincinnati who demonstrate exceptional leadership, compassion, service, and a commitment to strengthening human relations in their schools and communities.
Under HHC’s stewardship, the awards align with our mission to inspire action through the lessons of the Holocaust by celebrating young people who exemplify humanity, civic responsibility, and moral courage.
Program details
High school juniors and seniors enrolled in public, private, or parochial schools in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are eligible to apply.
Each year, three juniors and three seniors are selected for recognition:
- First Place: $1,000 cash award and public recognition at HHC’s Annual Meeting
- Second Place: $500 cash award, mailed with a congratulatory note
- Third Place: $250 cash award, mailed with a congratulatory note
Applicants must submit two references and a written essay responding to the prompt below.
Essay Prompt
How have you demonstrated leadership in improving human relations in your school, community, or beyond—either as an individual or as part of a group effort?
Human relations efforts may include:
- Building bridges with others and working together to serve community needs
- Leading others to address social issues with tangible impact
- Taking action to reduce prejudice, hate, or intolerance
