CINCINNATI – The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center is thrilled to name Kimberly Thompson this year’s Lilly & Mark Kurtz Educator Award recipient. The Lilly & Mark Kurtz Educator Award is dedicated to teachers who are committed to Holocaust education, ensuring the lessons of the Holocaust inspire action today. The Holocaust & Humanity Center educated more than 15,000 students in the last school year.

Thompson has been an educator for more than two decades and serves as a teacher librarian at Bullitt County Public Schools. Holocaust lessons in her library focus on not only teaching students the complex history of how and why this happened, but empowering them to be upstanders moving forward.

“My goal is to help them become thoughtful, compassionate citizens who want to make the world better, one person at a time,” Thompson said.

Beyond the library, Thompson recently worked with the Louisville Ballet to develop education materials to accompany their production of A Time Remembered. She is a regional leader with the University of Kentucky Jewish Heritage Fund Holocaust Education Initiative, a Sam and Roma Kaltman Teacher Fellow, and part of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Teacher Fellowship cohort.

“Kimberly exemplifies the power of education to shape a more empathetic and just world,” said Lauren Karas, Chief Learning Officer at the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center. “We are honored to recognize her as a leader and changemaker in the classroom and in the community.”

Thompson will receive $1,000 from the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center and will be recognized during the opening weekend of Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. in October.
