Holocaust & Humanity Center to host inspiring, inaugural event in June
CINCINNATI (May 25, 2022) The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center is proud to host the INAUGURAL UPSTANDER AWARDS PARTY on Thursday, June 2, at 6 p.m. to recognize individuals in the region who use their character strengths to be upstanders and make a difference.
This year’s Upstander Awards Party will honor 10 local individuals – ages 18 to 40 – who are creating change in the region and world. These are individuals WHO USE VIA CHARACTER STRENGTHS – such as leadership, teamwork, spirituality, kindness, and social intelligence – to impact the community for the better.
From leading community-wide service projects to using their career to tackle societal issues, these individuals know the importance of giving back and helping others. They believe in the importance of fighting injustice and unfairness, and they’re willing to stand up for others and speak up when they see wrongdoing. A committee of esteemed civic and community leaders, business professionals, and young adults used rigorous criteria to review nominations and determine the winners of the award. The Top 10 Winners include:
- Erin Saul, Senior Community Relations Specialist, Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital
- Kendra Sauro, Law Student at NKU Salmon P. Chase College of Law
- Dr. Anna Goroncy, Geriatric Fellowship Program Director, Assistant Professor, at UC College of Medicine and The Christ Hospital Health Network
- Dr. Christian Gausvik, Family Medicine Physician & Geriatrician at The Christ Hospital Health Network
- Rev. Kate Smith, Pastor of Mission & Outreach for Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church
- Allison JoAnn Lester, Director of Design & Impact at ISH
- Ella Dastillung, Co-Founder & Director of Transform
- Michael Young, Study Hall Executive Director
- Jordan Bankston, Founder & CEO of Forever Kings, Inc.
- Moriyah Skinner, Student at the University of Cincinnati
“Our organization has been deeply inspired by the incredible work being done by dozens of young upstanders in our community,” said Sarah L. Weiss, Chief Executive Officer of the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center. “With the Cincy Upstander Project, we aim to create a community of upstanders and we hope this event will be a catalyst to inspire hundreds of new upstanders in the year to come.”
The finalists, in addition to the 26 other nominees, will be honored at the Upstander Awards Party at Union Terminal. Individuals of all ages are encouraged to PURCHASE TICKETS and attend the event. Enjoy a cocktail hour and appetizers in Union Terminal’s breath-taking Rotunda, followed by live entertainment and an inspiring awards ceremony that will move you to become an upstander in your own way.
